Team GLR (Greenville Lab Rats)

  • GLR

Jim and Jeff at Checkpoint Zero 08 (before the snow)
Team GLR (Greenville Lab Rats) is a team of amateur athletes that race together every month or so in Adventure Races or similiar events. Sometimes we even train. Together, I mean.

Our goal is to finish. Sometimes we finish well. Sometimes we don't. It's all about having fun and keeping the crazy's from getting too close. We all got here through different paths but love the sport and the outdoors!

  • Jeff Papenfus

Jeff at Blue Ridge AR 08
Jeff was on the original Lab Rats race team with Tanya Dillard that tackled the 27 hour, 209 mile Blue Ridge Relay in 2006. All that did was whet his appetite for more adventure. He re-teamed with Tanya and met Jim Kelleher to form the Greenville Lab Rats AR team. Jeff is the navigator and voice of reason when all looks like it is spiraling downward. He is a runner, mountain biker and novice paddler. Jeff owns North Gate Labs (hence the Lab Rats name) and does his best to keep up with his teammates.

  • Jim Kelleher

Jim at Blue Ridge AR 08
Jim was convinced after a Marine Corps Mud Run that Adventure Racing was his ticket. After his first race in 2004, Jim has committed more hours, blood and sweat that he ever thought he would to the sport. Jim gets better each year he races and looks forward to many more races. Jim shares navigation duty with Jeff and functions as the workhorse of the team. Whether he's biking, treking, paddling or naving, Jim is our voice of experience.

  • Tanya Dillard

Tanya at Blue Ridge Relay 06
Tanya is a personal trainer, fitness coach and single mother who was looking for a sport that could push her natural athletic ability to the limit. She found the challenge she needed in Adventure Racing. Tanya is the practical one, telling us when and what to eat, when to stop and when to run like hell. She excels at running, biking and paddling on trail.

  • Matt Williamson

Matt at Blue Ridge AR 08
Matt started racing with us in 2007 at the Columbia, SC Marine Challenge "mud" run. We convinced him to come out and do an AR with us at the 2008 Blue Ridge Mountain. After making him run up hills and bike up bigger hills, we know he'll keep coming out!
